Inclusive Leadership and RECAP programmes

We are all striving to ensure we foster a more compassionate and inclusive culture which provides equal health outcomes.

There is now a real drive for EDI to become the golden thread in everything we do, which is also a key priority in the NHS People Plan. But we will only succeed if everyone takes responsibility for understanding more about the inequalities that exist and for changing our behaviours and actions to tackle them.

Race Equality Change Agents Programme (RECAP)

What is it about?

A one-year programme aiming to crowd source a variety of projects aimed at reducing racial inequalities within local organisations. The aim is to grow a cohort of ‘change agents’ who can take their learning on to future race-related projects, and engage peers and colleagues as part of a social movement for change.

What sort of projects?

Ideas for projects may come from organisational action plans, or from individual ideas about how to improve things for people from different races and cultures. All ideas will be considered and supported, although not all projects will be successful. However, all projects will provide learning opportunities not just for course participants but also for the ICS and our partners.

Why should I attend?

This programme is an opportunity to:

  • make a difference in your areas of work, in your team or department, and in the organisation
  • work towards reducing racial inequalities for service users and colleagues
  • develop your personal networks and to work with people from different organisations
  • undertake meaningful, continuing professional development
  • learn more about change project management and EDI
  • access further coaching and support if desired
  • share ideas in a safe space.

Inclusive Leadership Programme

What is it about?

Providing a framework for leaders across the ICS to develop to tackle racism and other forms of discrimination, eliminating racism and bias in recruitment and progression, and by removing barriers to help staff speak up. The programme is specifically for senior leaders (25 delegates), but further cohorts will run in the future.

Why should I attend?

All CEOs and senior leaders from the ICS partner organisations will act as role models for the system, linking with the ICS Racial Equality statement and pledge work: “From pledge to action: racial equality, diversity and inclusion in our workplaces and communities”.

This programme is an opportunity to:

  • learn about the Northern Care Alliance Intentional About Inclusion Leadership Framework, and explore awareness of your leadership responsibilities around EDI
  • consider, support and develop EDI in your areas of work, which will support working towards reducing racial inequalities for service users and colleagues by having a meaningful impact on structural and intuitional inequalities
  • develop your personal networks and to work with people from different organisations
  • undertake meaningful, continuing professional development and identify your own self-development activities
  • understand the practical steps to take to advance and implement inclusion
  • access further coaching and support if desired
  • share ideas, ask questions and discuss complex concepts in a safe space.
